Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)
1. Recognize the classification of neurological diseases.
2. Identify the symptoms and signs of neurological diseases.
3. Assess a neurology patient through proper history taking and clinical examination.
4. Select and interpret required investigations (laboratory and radiological) for neurological conditions.
5. Know how to manage emergency neurological cases.
6. Understand major medical and surgical neurological disorders in detail, including their management.

Psychiatry Module-2025/26

The psychiatry module introduces fifth year medical students to comprehensive understanding of mental health and psychiatric disorders, emphasizing their relevance to clinical practice. Students will learn the principles of psychiatric assessment through structured interviews and mental status examination, while also gaining knowledge of major psychiatric conditions, including schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, and neurocognitive disorders. The course also covers specialized areas such as child psychiatry, reproductive psychiatry, substance use disorders, eating disorders, and personality disorders. In addition, students will explore the foundations of psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and other treatment modalities, including electroconvulsive therapy, with a focus on evidence-based management. By the end of the course, after lectures, case discussions, and clinical practical sessions students are expected to:

• Recognize major psychiatric disorders.

• Conduct a psychiatric interview and mental status examination.

• Formulate diagnoses and management plans.

• Understand psychopharmacology and basic psychotherapy.

• Approach psychiatric patients with empathy and professionalism.
